Great read, and 100% in on little tables and small gatherings. 3 players is excellent, 4 is very good - 5+ is just too much. And weirdly, 2 seems like more work than a one-on-one game.
Now I'm thinking about the friend-of-the-family lake house here in Oly I could rent in the off season... RainCon 1 in 2025? Maybe?
I really resonated with this! Particularly when pointing out the opportunity for a wider spectrum of play experiences. I've been working on a setting that allows me to initiate impromptu sessions with an episodic nature. This gives me hope that other players will want to join in and participate in the types of stories I want bring out of the table going forward!
This really makes me want to organize some smaller events. Maybe 2026.
I host a 10-person con every January or February in a lake house. The neighborhood is deserted that time of year. Always an awesome time.
Nice! I'm thinking about a thing like this! 👍🏿

Is that an invite? Got dice, will travel!

Nice! I'm also working on improving my open-table process for the same reasons!
My sweet spot is me+3, so 4 total, but I feel like 5 is too many, so I voted in the smaller category.
I feel this especially in online games; three players and a GM is my sweet spot, too!
