TTRPGS on Substack
My list of RPG newsletters to read
If you’re a Substack subscriber, you likely get that “What to read” email. I’ve been waiting for that Read: Thomas Manuel on Gaming email…but alas, I’m gonna have to write that email, so here it is.
TTRPG Newsletters to checkout on Substack
Leading the search list is Monte Cook’s RPG Design Theories about his thoughts on game design, narratives, and mechanics. I follow this substack because I like a personal perspective on design and mechanics.
The Glatisant: A Questing Beast Newsletter, without a doubt! Ben Milton puts in work on YouTube, Indie press, and now on Substack! I’m a subscriber. Like him or not, Milton knows what he enjoys about games and OSR for sure. He does a solid job covering those products.
The Indie RPG Newsletter from Thomas Manuel is my Sunday morning coffee treat! He curates the indie RPG scene happenings, always kind words and thoughtful reflections. Worth subscribing to!
Split/Party is a TTRPG deconstruction newsletter where they take apart games to see how they go. They’ve got a series on Hardwired Island I’m currently reading.
You like DnD builds? jinofcoolnes’s Newsletter has got you covered with a TON of builds and thoughts about gaming from the DnD perespective.
Sable GM's game mastering advice covering at-the-table advice and tools for TTRPGs. I have just started consuming this newsletter. I found it while writing this post.
There are too many great starts of newsletters that have ‘ghosted.’ I wish they stuck it out a bit longer. Some covered the broad world of RPGs, another on PoC and RPGs, and yet another that looked like it was all about the Lancer RPG.
Not Substacks, but oh well.
SaveVS.TPK by Ramanan Sivaranjan is a favorite DnD/OSR source for me. Again, it’s a personal take on the hobby that I enjoy reading.
Judd Karlman’s Githyanki Diaspora. You’ll get premises to jumpstart your games, Actual play posts, and links to projects.
Great list!!
