This week was a bit of a challenge for me. I had planned to publish an article on metagaming in roleplaying games today, but it wasn't ready to be released. It could be I spent my Mojo this week doing gamemaster prepping for my two amazing Champions Now games and working out a system for editing those podcasts. Both of those online groups have their own Magic that makes them special. One has a supernatural Hellboy vibe, and the other has an Old Lion, Old Money & Old Grudges attitude. I can’t wait for you to listen to them both. We’ll move on to the City of Mist RPG when the “r/CapitolCryptids” game finishes in two more sessions. With a side run of Villains and Vigilantes RPG for me! The killer gamemaster skill is the framing and timing of scenes/panels without railroading a plot. Generally, in media, the heroes are reactive. Both these games begin with the heroes in the middle of a situation already unfolding by the villains. The players then pick up steam and momentum, doing hero stuff. But when they slow down; when they stop, the gamemaster has to be ready to frame up the next situation based on what’s occurred and the villain's agendas. That’s the GM skill!
IRL money and mojo are also at play as my family undergoes changes - nothing to worry about, normal family growth, stress, etc. But it’s hard nonetheless, and we have to go through it. Lots of motivational talks and dad leadership - but that’s an L word!
Big thanks to my new paid subscribers! I appreciate it! Maybe M should also be for Money! There are plenty of systems that track currency and those that abstract it, and still, others that have no use for it —I think that’s a post!
I’ve been listening to Dumas's Three Musketeers on Audible, I’ve never read the books, and I’m very interested in the new movie coming out. I was surprised this is not a Disney story!!
Lots of Against The Darkmaster buzz going on (It’s been at $5). That’s likely a follow-up game to my current Rolemaster sessions.
Thank you for being here; that’s motivation for me! Right now, I’ve got to track down a nice map of 17th-century France. I’m overdue for running a game of En Garde! for some folks I know —but if you know of a nice map, you know how to reach me!
