Good Monday, Gamer!
“Today is as good as any to die, and in better company than most.” —Ororo Munroe, Bard
I've been playing a lot of Marvel Rivals lately. I'm not the typical demographic, but maybe that's the game's intent—to convert newbies. Casual mode is fun without being punishing, and it draws you in to learn more about the game and your favorite characters. I've chosen Thor and Namor to work on, and I'm digging it. The Rival's website also offers extensive lore, making it super addictive! It’s Free to Play, with two in-game currencies (?) I think for skins? You can spend money, but I’m not sure on what?! Probably means my understanding of this game is incomplete!! 🤣
It’s my Birthday Month Sale!
(In case you’re stuck on what to gift me!)
Sunday's Black Sword Hack Session 1: Warlocks... Whatcha Gonna Do?! 🤷🏾♂️
Our brave (and occasionally chaotic) heroes successfully secured Renee, the Philosopher Duke’s daughter, from the clutches of cultists and mercenary bands. But it wasn’t without its share of drama—and warlock-demon shenanigans.
The Beast of Ambersoul: The crew managed to slay the monstrous lion-octopus chimera, with Betany, the Raider barbarian delivering two critical blows and dealing a whopping 22 points in the process! Not content with just a victory, she made a cloak from the Beast’s hide. Very fashionable, very cursed.
Demonic Double-Cross: Things took a turn when poorly trained demons turned on their summoner, the warlock Vanderjack. This resulted in Rikvengar's axe being stolen, Vanderjack losing blood to his rebellious underlings, and they set the Beast of Ambersoul onto Vanderjack’s trail.
In the end, the crew successfully returned Renee to her parents at the Philosopher Duke’s estate. Let's pour one out for Vanderjack; he did what he could, but he never made it out of Ambersoul.
May Doom forget their names... but probably not Vanderjack's.
Monday's Black Sword Hack Session 0: Malpha the Fallen
Malpha the Barbarous. Malpha the Black. Malpha the Drinker of Souls.
The older sages whisper of a different name: Malpha, the Twice-Great Champion of Law, Malpha the Fallen.
An Age of Ice has descended upon the lands. The Iron Horde marches ever southward, bringing with them foul constructs and living smoke that choke the skies. Twisted insectoid men, their origins unknown, skirmish with caravans and leave tales of terror in their wake. The southern lands stand on the brink of annihilation, and chaos looms on every horizon.
Tonight, the Monday crew has taken on the job of protecting an elder monk of the Fulcrum Order from the Dream Thief, who seeks the location of the Blue Smoke Palace.
Tools of the Trade
I've been generating some amazing maps using Watabou's tools. Donjon remains my go-to name generator. Let's Role is quickly becoming my "easy" Virtual Tabletop (VTT) pick.
On My Wishlist
Batman: Gotham City Chronicles – The Roleplaying Game: I recently read through the quick start guide for this game, and now I can't wait to run it—with all the minis! This RPG allows players to explore Gotham City as heroes or villains, utilizing a modified 3.5E system to run Gotham. I think the PDFs are available!!
.dungeon on Kickstarter: This tabletop roleplaying game draws inspiration from the dying days of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games, blending nostalgia with fantasy elements. Players explore a digital world on the brink of shutdown, creating unique narratives shaped by the remnants of a once-thriving virtual community.
The Metabarons: I just pulled down and am consuming Humble Bundle's collection of The Metabarons and assorted comics available. This epic space opera, created by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Juan Giménez, chronicles the saga of the Metabaron dynasty—a lineage of perfect warriors known for their prowess and complex, tragic histories. Great RPG material!
Catch ya next week!
