Good Monday, Gamer!
Through the Doors of Durin debuted at Meeple-a-thon, and let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster. Bigger AP drop coming later this week. So, I show up, and what do I see? A table full of kids and their young custodian/brother/uncle? "We’ve never played this game, but we love Lord of the Rings," says the oldest, probably around 15. The youngest shouts, "Not me! I only like The Hobbit!"—maybe nine years old? Oh man, this is going to be a mess, right? And it gets worse. I forgot to bring my stack of pregens. Yep, left all those crowd-generated characters (thanks, Indie Game Reading Club!) on the printer. All I had were the hobbit pregens from the starter box.
I dropped the bad news, expecting groans, but no—the table CHEERED! The hobbits were here to save the day. Their mission? The only thing Balin's expedition of dwarves would leave to Hobbits...a simple supply run. From the First Hall to the King’s Hall, right at the front line of the fighting. Two supply drop stops. Easy, right? But in true hobbit fashion, it spiraled into chaos. We had marriage proposals, accidental sneaking into goblins, supplies delivered to battle-weary dwarves, firing arrows at Azog then running, party-splitting (of course), a dwarf captain awed into husbandhood, and the finale: the youngest hobbit fan slays Azog while his buddy hides under a wagon watching it all go down. Sometimes, you just gotta let the hobbits win—because the people at the table matter more than the game. I’d game with this crew again any day...but first, I need a nap. Technical AP coming later this week, so stay tuned for the good, the bad, and the ugly of running Moria.
Alright, here we go! Dolemenwood—we sorta have this place figured out. NO SPOILERS! I think we’ve finally cracked what we’ve come to retrieve from this weird dungeon in a cauldron. Gerg the Breggle magician (yes, BREGGLE—take that, autocorrect!) faced off against those mean sprites again, Round 2. I got to swat the💩 outta them, and fingers crossed, and they’re gone for good this time! We’ve puzzled through some strange room tricks, had ourselves a concert and a dance party, and now I think we know what we need to do in our last session. How we’ll pull it off? 🤷🏾♂️ Is it the "win condition"? 🤷🏾♂️ Who knows, but we’re going for it!
TinyCon.Events 36% and Ticking!
TinyCon.Events on Kickstarter is sitting at 36%, and time’s running out, folks. By request, we’ve added a new tier for private, branded instances of TinyCon, and I’m getting the inevitable “What if it doesn’t fund?” questions. I knew this was a real possibility when I started. I don’t know how far my social reach really goes or how those wild algorithms work.
I believe in Kickstarter’s original mission: to give creators a platform to gauge interest and secure funding for new and innovative ideas. For me, TinyCon.events on Kickstarter is not just about raising money; it’s about finding out if there’s a real audience for this project. Maybe I’m being idealistic, but I see Kickstarter as the perfect opportunity for people to come together and support fresh, creative ventures like this one. It’s a way to answer the question, “Is there a community out there for this?” and offer people a chance to actively contribute to something new.
Catch you next week!
