Good Monday, Gamer!
Spades, cornhole, Colossoltron, and Marvel's Puzzle Quest were this week's gaming hits! It was family reunion week for me—my mom's side of the tribe gathers every even year, and this time we made the trek out to Florida for this year's Fam-moot.
Last week, I posted about using reunions in RPGs, and I got an awesome story in the comments about two rival military units meeting again for the first time since their conflict, and the tensions that came with it. Made me think about all the juicy narrative potential reunions have in games.
While killing time during airport layovers, I pulled out some old favorites like the arcade mecha builder Colossoltron and the ever-addictive Marvel's Puzzle Quest. Let me tell you, Marvel's Puzzle Quest still kicks so much booty. There’s something endlessly satisfying about matching those tiles and pulling off those combos.
Also, I saved and read some interesting articles from my Instapaper stash:
Part Two of Design Thinking from the Ludological Alchemists: If you're into game design theory, check this out. Great insights!
A Classic Traveller GM's Experiences and Postmortem: A fascinating dive into what a veteran GM would do differently if they could go back. Read it here.
Thoughts on Descending AC: This one intrigued me—a different take on an old-school mechanic that got me thinking about game armor mechanics. Check it out.
Catch ya next week!
