Good Monday, Gamer!
We're back on The ORB after a two-week hiatus. The crew has made it off the derelict frigate with the package they came for—and questions! We've used the core mechanics, combat, and space combat —for which I’d like a nice cheat sheet!!
Coming off my local RPG day run, I've been working up a 1-shot con scenario for Twilight: 2000. Called Heavy is the Crown. Here's my pitch:
"Heavy is the Crown" for Twilight: 2000, players find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes mission to retrieve the stolen crown of Bolesław I, one of Poland's revered crown jewels. The crown was taken during the chaos of war when the National Museum in Warsaw was looted, and now it rests atop the head of a Ukrainian bandit prince named Shevchenko the Dog-Skinner, who rules over the town of Stalowa Wola.
I’ll pre-playtest it online before its debut at Midwest Gamefest in April, then to a con near YOU!! (maybe!). It's a product of the Indie Game Read Club Slack. I went in with 'Client hires PCs to get Macguffin from bad city' and came out with this gem!!
I'm also working on a second IRL game using OSE and Dolemwood or UVG. Some years ago, I ran Mutant Year Zero as an open-table, shared campaign event. I would run a couple of slots of it across different RPG cons. I kept a physical journal for players to write and draw into as a way to "talk" to future expeditions/players. I still have that journal of drawings and scribbles and warnings —it’s fantastic.
The current talk about Third spaces has entered my circles, and it kind of resonates with me. I mostly work from home, live in the house, and play in the house. Getting out last weekend to run a game at my local RPG day event felt really good. So, I'm getting access to my favorite FLGS game room, and I plan to start running weekly Sunday morning sessions there, open table style.
Also, this piece by Jay Dragon about Boomtown playtesting is pure gold and timely!
