Happy New Year, Gamer 🥳
It's Old Year Jay, filling in for Future New Year Jay. Right now, he's likely still asleep, possibly hung over from last night’s festivities. It’s been a while since we got out dolled up, and Fancy —I’ll even wear a tie!!
My wishlist of games to play in 2024 includes 8+ sessions of Ars Magica, some sessions of Brancalonia, and Blackbirds RPG. I’m making that happen. I’d also like to find my go-to scifi game. Burning Wheel remains my #1 fantasy roleplaying game of choice, but I don't have a solid sci-fi favorite, and I means to rectify that!
2023 has us hitting the pause button on Twilight: 2000; It’ll be a B-side game for sessions where we’re short players. I’ll have a post covering how we got there and where we’re going next. We’re taking up Edge of the Empire next!
I miss IRL gaming and meeting new folks at convention tables. I need to get a good handle on that in 2024.
Prototyping combat mechanics for Grimoires! (FKA Wizard Time) was pretty fun and educational. I'll prototype more of the game systems, ideally building out a small-scale shareable demo in early 2024. And I'm thinking about going to GDC 2024!
What's on your games to play in 2024 card?
I need to get into more demos this year with new folks. This time of year is so exciting and the hype is definitely real.
I've been re-reading Scum & Villainy which is a BitD take on space opera. Really want to play that in the new year.
