Good Monday Gamer ☕️
I watched 3000 Years of Longing this week. Much more than a modern Aladdin and the Genie tale for adults. Tales of the creatures of Dust, Fire, and Light, especially Djinn, have enchanted me forever. No spoilers, but the movie has lots to offer on Djinn culture and biology. Ideas for modern and fantasy settings involving the Djinn. It explores the constraints, motivations, and manipulations around those three wishes. Like what happens if I don't make any wishes? Good stuff.
I was assembling and base painting minis for my second run at Five Parsecs From Home, a solo adventure wargame. There are three? expansions out for it now. I've got the first two. Trail Blazer's Toolkit and the Freelancer's Handbook. The game has an implied setting, with the minis being agnostic. I'll abandon the Unity setting for the Warhammer 40K Kill Team setting and use my Kill Team minis for the crew and adversaries. The character generation rules has three approaches. One is a miniatures first, and you make picks that are in line with the miniature’s appearance —that's what I'll do. I've got two space marines, a Tau scout, and a drone, a Kroot warrior. I'm looking for a leader and maybe a Kroot hound and a space dwarf!! I hope to do a couple of campaign turns and report back to you!
I'm planning to run Miseries and Misfortunes online in December. I'm working out online logistics for it, and I'm thinking of trying out Notion and Zoom. A quick search revealed folks have been slapping up RPG tooling for Notion, and there is a Dice tool. If I'm right, Notion is a great web-based collaboration tool built for sharing and interaction with some nice building tools. Players wouldn't need to 'learn' software beyond navigating a webpage and spreadsheet-esque controls.
I'm that guy who must look through the used games in a hobby shop. I scored big this week!! I picked up Muspelheim for Trudvang Chronicles RPG, a game I still need to get to the table —I don’t care what the reviews say!! I gotta see it for myself! Also, Brancalonia and the Marcaronicon RPG books, a Spaghetti Fantasy setting for 5E. I'm into the non-Forgotten Realms settings if I'm the DM for 5E. A nice small haul!
