Good Monday Gamer ☕️
This weekend, I acquired some space dwarves to add to my Kill Team for Five Parsecs From Home. The solo miniatures wargame from Modphius. They recently added a 3rd expansion, Fixers. I've easily been getting my minis skirmish fix in playing this game. I get a campaign turn or two in a week. I've been using the Warhammer 40K Kill Team setting and the minis I have to play. The 5PFH has nice character generation rules to build your "crew." I should write some actual play posts about it; solo games seem to have a strong showing lately.
My killer game of the week is Hitman, like the video game series via ...Apocalypse World RPG. My son had a friend over this weekend, and her folks asked if she could hang out with us for the day. Let's call her Dana. Max and Dana wanted to play something. Dana was curious about tabletop RPGs but wasn’t interested in the D&D fantasy stuff their group of friends had been playing. I asked what she was interested in. She said she played a lot of Hitman on Xbox; and that when she graduates high school, she plans to join the CIA to be an assassin!👀 Are there RPGs like Hitman?
CIA Assassin…. Yes. Yes, we can play Hitman the TTRPG!
I thought about just going with the Hollowpoint RPG, but I didn't want the character swapping to be a factor. So I grabbed the Battlebabe, Gunlugger, and the Driver playbooks from Apocalypse World. I asked Dana to tell me about the Hitman world while thinking about which playbooks to offer up and why there would be two agents on a mission. What we got was Hitman: The Clone Wars with guest stars President Taylor Swift and double-agent Nick Fury on location in Dubai. I won't name their target except that reality social media does impact our kids! I got a call Sunday from Dana's dad; he wanted to know where to get the "Hitman World" game, but he couldn't find it on Amazon. 🤷🏾♂️
Sunday evening on Twitch.tv/actualplay Judd (Daydreaming about Dragons) and I played a B-side session, some Free Kriegsspiel Revolution experimentation. Wizard's Apprentice. I'm playing Xivak, an apprentice to a Necromancer in the City of Bone. Becoming a wizard has a lot of formal steps...the first of which is getting rid of a demonic entity we call The Rabbit. FKR is interesting for its minimalist rules, high-trust style, and the emergent play, IME, that often comes with it.
