Last week in gaming
Fairies, Gig crime, teen heroes and troublemakers.
Under Hollow Hills. I can feel the old, cranky man's signals. Where I want to settle into the comfortable, easy pocket, but external forces…. My friend Judd pitched running Under Hollow Hills for our Every Other Sunday game on Twitch.tv/actualplay. I was thinking surely the other two players will pick one of his other pitches, so I won’t have to say no to this one. But you know, players NEVER do as you want. I’ve gotten pretty good at being aware of unfounded crankiness, this feeling was that. My gut said this, Under Hollow Hills was some non-adventure, hugging game that wasn’t for a cranky stone like me. But I don’t know that. I don’t know any of it because I never even looked at the game; I’m pre-judging it; I want BIG EPIC adventures, I think🤷🏾♂️ Judd asked about which playbooks were being considered, and the names made me…interested, intrigued even. The Crowned Stag, The Crooked Wand… As we began selecting which playbooks we wanted, I narrowed my choices down to the Feathered Cloak and the Interloper. When I say these spoke to me, I mean there was vivid imagery, sound, shenanigans in my head about how I’d play the character, what the character was about. Twitter crowd-sourcing decided I’d play the Feather-Cloak, and I am not disappointed. I love the “actions” and can’t wait to use them. “Make someone Blink”, “Serve tea and honeycakes.” Our first session was a mundane seeming one, setting up the circus in the goblin market…but the details - so, very fae! I’m cranky now that Judd didn’t pitch this game sooner!
Masks: Travelers by Night. I’m playing the Doomed in this game. The Ring Council has fallen into in-fighting and hid me away in the simulacra. There are hunters searching for Ring-D339, AKA Ring. He has Neo-like super strength and speed, memory manipulation for memories he is a part of, and time-leeching. We’ve got session zero completed, and I’m pretty stoked to see what we, the Janus, The Outsider, and the Brain, get on to!
A|State - Session one is in the books. The Troublemakers offer to broker peace between the Daylight criminal faction and the law-enforcing Slow Walkers after one of their own gets brutally attacked by the Daylight gang and threat of a knife fight. This first session was a nice “get-to-know” characters and where they live. I was also feeling out the IRL game pace. We’ll play 2-2.5 hour sessions. How much can we comfortable fit into that time?
The Old, the Cold, and the Bold - I’ve been playtesting Whitney Delaglio’s latest RPG work. You play criminals working jobs thru a crime app..think Uber for Heists! I’m playing the Old. A professional, experienced career criminal. We’re all running a crime gig to swipe the police chief’s fancy smart car and put it on top of the main police station’s roof. It’s got the Lady Blackbird frame underneath, but I’m enjoying what Whitney has done with that frame in this playtest.
Oh, and Lifted Vol1 was also funded last week! Get ready for more supers game coverage!
